FUNDS FOR FRIENDS
Thank you to all the wonderful members who shop at Sentry on 92nd & Lisbon and fill our jar in the narthex. Recently the Ladies’
Society received approximately $116 and more recently we turned in close to $26,000 and we have way more to go. We must stress
a few things. We ONLY accept receipts from 92nd & Lisbon and 77th & Lisbon. Receipts from other Sentry stores are not
acceptable and are only extra work for the people who have to sort these. We also ask that you PEASE ask for a “sticker” on your
receipt. They used to give us extras, but now they are starting to ask questions about why we’re asking for more. Since Ladies’
Society will no longer be having a rummage sale, this is our only source of income besides our monthly soup sale. Keep filling the jar
and don’t forget your sticker!!!
NO RUMMAGE SALE: The Ladies Society is no longer able to hold a rummage sale. We know some of you were saving
merchandise for the sale so we ask that you either take your items to "Blessed Again" on 76th & Hampton or The Economy Center on
78th and Burleigh. Both of these stores have a worthwhile use for their profits. Thank you for all your help and support these past
years.
The mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran church – Missouri Synod in
affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.
A LITTLE HISTORY:
LWML made its beginning in the 1850’s by starting local auxiliaries to meet the needs of people. They mended clothes for
seminarians, equipped hospitals, established schools, developed convalescent and retirement homes, assisted orphanages and
residences for people with disabilities, gathered clothing, furniture and food and funded mission endeavors at home and abroad.
On July 7 & 8, 1942, the founding convention was held in Chicago. This convention was attended by over 100 women from 15
districts. The 28 delegates adopted a constitution, approved a name, chose two projects, and established a Literature Committee to
publish books, a national magazine, tracts and programs.
Mite boxes were selected as the vehicle for collecting funds. Those contributions have supported Christian outreach in 42 countries
on five continents. By 2005, international LWML mission grants totaled more than $18,500,000.
The blessing of the LWML goes far beyond the millions raised for missions. The benefits can be seen in faith deepened through
Bible studies, in confidence built through leadership training, in befriending of career missionaries, in blankets and clothing gathered
for the impoverished, in food shared with the hungry and above all, in the friendships nurtured and the lives changed by sharing the
love of Jesus Christ.
