COVENANT LUTHERAN CHURCH "IT'S A NEW DAY... ... A NEW BEGINNING"
|
A LITTLE HISTORY:
Four Men and a Grill was started as a way for Jim Braatz, Brian Maletzke, Steve Dasher and I to get together and spend time as
friends. It’s really as simple as that: we enjoyed hanging out with each other and we enjoyed cooking. We have spent a lot of time
together over the years, working with each other on different school and youth events. As the kids got older and went to different
schools, there were less time and chances for us to do this. But when we did, we always talked about the kitchen and our
congregation. We realized we all enjoyed hanging out after church and were very often the last ones to leave. I think we all believe
that fellowship is something we could build on, and is an important part of growing our church family: something we could do through
food.
As we did our little thing, we started making more friends who wanted to help and hang with us: Adrian Kreuger, Alyssa Pergande,
some of our kids, and the list is growing all the time. I started to realize that food and fellowship is contagious and go hand in hand.
I believe this is truly the time I started to realize how special our church was; everyone there cares about everyone, something I can
honestly say I had never felt outside of my immediate family before.
The more we talked about it, the more we realized that it was our turn, as a generation, to take over some of the cooking
responsibilities of the church. The different ladies groups had been treating us so well for so long that it was time for a little pay back.
The money we charge for the different things that we do is to pay for the product we use. The leftover money we use to restock the
kitchen with sundry items that are there for everyone’s use (condiments, napkins, paper plates, cups, coffee, etc.).
Our long range goals for the kitchen and fellowship hall include a freezer in the kitchen, a possible new oven, a dishwasher, and
round tables for the fellowship hall.
But we need everyone’s help because we also want to make a difference for our church family. We have friends out there who may
need assistance, have health issues in the family, or are having a hard time. We may be able to help them as well by bringing dinner
for the family or kids while Mom and Dad visit someone in the hospital; or they can let us know on a Sunday morning when we’re
there that they have a friend who could use a meal, and it’ll be on us.
Most of all, we are there to unite the church and help it grow as a family, and sharing a meal together has always been the best way
the Four Men have known how to bring a family closer; so that we can learn about each other, appreciate each other, understand
each other, and to help our congregation grow (hopefully not just our waistlines).
